Film production key terms





  • Writer

Definition- A writer is a person in film production who writes screenplays for films, television programs, comics or video games. This person also writes the plot and explains what’s going to happen so the scripter knows what parts are needed and the type of actors needed.

  • Producer

Definition- Film producers have a variety of roles which are all dependant on the type of producer. If the producer has been employed by a production company, the producers plan and coordinate lots of different parts of the film production e.g. selecting script, directing and editing, and arranging financing.

  • Casting director

Definition- the person who is responsible for assigning roles in a film, play or tv programmes.

 

  • Director

Definition- The person who directs the film and how it is made. Usually, the film director controls costumes, the different acting parts and looks at the script while helping the technical crew and actors in the overall end image.

  • Film finance

Definition- Manages all aspects of the finances of a company or large film production. Prepares budgets, manages cash flow, accounting and taxation, raising finances

  • Camera operator

Definition- A camera operator is the cameraman or a camerawoman, this person operates a film or video camera.

Editor

Definition- The job of an editor is putting pieces of a film together, cutting off certain film shots and editing dialogue scenes.

  • Production designer

Definition- The person responsible for the overall look of the filmed parts such as in TV program, video game, music video, or advertisement. Production designers have a key role in the creation of motion pictures and TV.

  • Marketing

Definition- Marketing is overseeing the creation and planning of marketing campaigns for films

  • Exhibition
Definition- Exhibition is the public screening, so showing films in cinemas and
